$250,000
Celebrities and Executives Enjoy Winged Foot
MAMARONECK, NY, October 5, 2004 - A beautiful
day dawned on the historic Winged Foot Golf Club
today as Pat LaFontaine hosted the 2nd Annual
Companions in Courage Foundation Golf Classic.
LaFontaine said, "Today was a special day on two
fronts. It was great to bring the leaders in
business together in a relaxing atmosphere with
some of the premier athletes in sports. But most
importantly, we were able to bring everyone to
the new Lion's Den Room at Maria Fareri
Hospital. For the first time, the guys were able
to see kids benefiting from the room they all
helped build."
Merrill Lynch and Allied Domecq QSR served as
primary sponsors for the event. Each company was
represented by some of the elite from their
firms, and helped contribute to the raising of
more than $250,000 during the day. Pat
LaFontaine led a contingent of celebrities that
included actor Denis Leary, baseball's David
Cone, and Hockey Hall of Famers Marcel Dionne,
Brad Park, Lanny McDonald, Bryan Trottier and
Clark Gillies.
They were joined by a group of current NHL stars
including Alexei Kovalev, Adrian Aucoin, Rick
DiPietro, Bryan McCabe and Michael Peca. The
field of celebrities also included Ken Morrow,
Ted Nolan, Patrick Flatley, Randy Wood and Paul
Stewart. For the second straight year Gillies
was the overall champ with a score of 75.
DiPietro won the Long Drive contest and Dwight
Jacobsen was Closet to the Pin with a shot that
nestled just 3'-6" from the hole.
The team of Paul Ryan, Sr., Paul Ryan, Jr.,
Cameron Mathison and Tim Luzadre won the team
low gross with a score of 66. The team captained
by Kenny Morrow, that included Paul Selvin, Joe
Eaton, Larry Levine and Howard Steinberg took
the low net honors with a score of 54.
Denis Leary took the mike during the cocktail
party and reminded everyone why they were there.
He said, "The work that Pat (LaFontaine) is
doing is some of the most important we can do
for kids in need."
The formal event kicked off with a touching
presentation on the work of the Companions in
Courage Foundation. It highlighted the new
Lion's Den Room in Westchester and featured
interviews with healthcare professionals and
some of the kids already benefiting from the
room.
Clark Gillies and Paul Stewart did a great job
with the live auction which featured David Cone
offering three foursomes at Hudson National with
his buddies Goose Gossage and Joe Girardi.
LaFontaine thanked all of the sponsors

Putnam Investments, AIM, Chapdelaine
Corporation, CIBC, Banl of America, Alliance
Bernstein, Neuberger Berman, Huntington Village

The brunch was sponsored by Goldman Sachs, the
dinner was sponsored by Yale-New Haven Hospital
and a gift of four music CDs was provided to
each player by BMG Direct.
